Local Transit Draws Buyers...Nationally and in Tucson

A new national survey shows that 51% of Americans agree that the availability of good public transportation increases the likelihood that they would want to move to a particular area.  And we are seeing that in Tucson as well, as buyers increasingly cite proximity to transit, particularly the new Tucson Sunlink streetcar system, as a criteria for their new home.

Fun Things in Tucson: The Rogue Theatre's Tales of the Jazz Age

Just when we are starting to miss the arts and culture of Tucson's winter season, along comes The Rogue Theatre with a delightful adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's tale of Jelly Bean from Tales of the Jazz Age. I saw it last night and it was a beautiful production. Told as much through dance (a wonderful collaboration with Artifact Dance Project Studios) as words, the Rogue continues to delight and surprise.

This is a short run, now through July 24 and tickets are going fast.  So click Tales of the Jazz Age for more information and tickets.

Fun Things in Tucson: Cool Mountain Hikes and Cool (relatively) Summer Evenings at the Desert Museum

It is hot!  Here are some ideas to get outside and be cool:

Mt. Lemmon Hikes

We headed up Mt. Lemmon on July 4th for the annual Summerhaven parade (my band played!) and for a fun hike afterwards. We did the Mint Springs trail from Summerhaven which connected to the Marshall Gulch trail. The regrowth since the 2003 forest fire is impressive but it will be another generation or two before it is back to the way we remember it. But it was nice to be out of the desert heat and there are a lot of good trails to choose from, many of which still are shaded by those towering pines. So if you want a cool outdoor experience, head up the Mt. Lemmon highway and check out a trail. Here is a link to the National Forest website: Hikes in the Catalinas

Cool Summer Nights at the Desert Museum

Tonight's Cool Summer Nights program at the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum features a hot topic that we don't think about too much here in Tucson, but they are nearby. Volcanoes! Also on the program are Vaquitas...the rare, yet adorable, species of porpoise endemic to the northern part of the Gulf of California.  The fun starts at the Desert Museum at 5:00 pm.

Mortgage Rates Back to Near Record Lows

4 or 5 years ago, we were passionately urging prospective home buyers to get out and find their new homes before the record-low mortgage interest rates started zooming up with the improving economy.

Well, the economy has improved somewhat, but rates this week are back down near record lows. Blame the Brexit or the Fed, but 30 year rates averaging 3.41% make this a great time to start looking for a new home.
