Fun Things in Tucson: Theatre, Band Music, and Theatre with Beer

This is a great weekend for the arts in Tucson.

It is the last weekend to catch River City at the Zuzi Theatre.  This play reveals three generations’ worth of secrets buried in a Louisville, Kentucky family's past, investigating race, memory, and the ghosts that haunt this family. More information at Borderlands Presents River City

And the Tucson Concert Band presents its now annual Side by Side concert, in which outstanding high school musicians from around Tucson sit in with the band for an afternoon of great band music.  The performance starts at 3pm Sunday in Cholla High School's beautiful auditorium located at 2001 West Starr Pass Boulevard.

And for the arts and beer minded, there is Beer with the Bard where you will get beer at four downtown pubs along with scenes from Shakespeare.  The fun starts at 2pm Saturday and includes stops at Hotel Congress, Surly Wench, and Flycatcher. More information at Beer with the Bard

Bees are Buzzing in Tucson

Don't Try This at Home!
Stepping out onto my West Side Tucson patio yesterday, I was greeted by a large number of bees buzzing around. At first I thought they were just enjoying the palo verde blooms but I soon realized there were way too many of them for just that. Given that there was probably a bee swarm nearby, I stepped back inside and soon they had gone on their bzzzzzy way.

But often those migrating swarms will set up their new home around your home...in a hollow tree, an open roof space or a rarely used storage area. If you suspect this has happened, my advice is to call in a bee removal specialist. Do not disturb them, allow your kids or pets to approach them, or try to remove them yourself.

I had a client last year who was buying a Tucson house and we noticed large numbers of bees entering a space under a separate storage building. We stayed clear, and wrote into the Buyers Inspection Notice that my client wanted the bees removed by a professional bee removal service prior to closing on the house. The Seller agreed and the bees were gone when I handed my client her keys.

But be aware!  And check out this bee story from KVOA.

Tucson's Rogue Theatre Announces an Exciting 2015-16 Season

Tucson's wonderful Rogue Theatre has announced an outstanding lineup of plays for the 2015-16 season.  The season starts in October with an intriguing tandem production of Hamlet and Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead.  I have seen them both but never together.  Here is what the Rogue folks say about it:
"Hamlet is among the most powerful and influential tragedies in English literature, with a story capable of endless retelling and adaptation by others. Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead expands upon the exploits of two of Hamlet’s minor characters "in the wings." Presenting these two plays in rotating repertory is an exciting opportunity for Tucson audiences. The same 14-member cast is on stage for both productions and audiences can see the plays six weeks apart or on the same day."

For more information on those and the rest of next season's productions, as well as ticket information go to:

And don't forget the Rogue's last production of the current season The Merchant of Venice begins its three weekend run on April 30.

Tasty dish pic courtesy of Penca, downtown on East Broadway
I will be doing my traditional Easter dinner of Kentucky country ham and corn pudding (sort of a southern corn souffle) this Sunday.  But if you prefer to get out for a good Easter brunch, here are eight great suggestions from our friends at the Tucson Weekly.
