Mortgage Rates Climb to Highest Level in Year

The headline sounds more scary than the reality.  Yes...30-year fixed rate mortgages are up to their highest levels in the past year.  Which means that those rates are now averaging 3.81%.  Considering that my first mortgage was 14% (don't ask me when that was!), rates are still looking pretty darned good and are still just above their historic lows.

But the other reality is that these near record low rates can't last forever.  And with prices starting to creep up a bit in Tucson, potential buyers who have been sitting on the sidelines may want to consider starting their search for their next Tucson home.

Just Sold! Custom Santa Fe with Horse Facilities in Gorgeous Gates Pass $399,000

I fell in love with this beautiful Tucson Mountains home when the owners first welcomed me to talk about selling it.  Set in Tucson's beautiful Gates Pass area, this newer custom built Santa Fe home is nestled on 3.3 acres and is walking distance to one of my favorite hiking trails in the Tucson Mountain, the David Yetman trail in Tucson Mountain Park.  The backyard of this Tucson home features what I called the "entertainment ramada" with gorgeous mountain views, built-in grill and sink, bar and more.  The new owners should have some great parties there.

In addition to the three bedrooms and three baths, the house itself features an office/den, formal dining room, sunny breakfast area and a huge three car garage.

Jim's Tucson Favorites: Sausage Shop Meat Market and Deli on Prince Road

How in the world have I lived in Tucson for 22 years yet never found this place?  Walk in the door and the scent of bratwurst, smoked brisket, hams and all sorts of sausages is just wonderful.

I was on a quest for fresh andouille sausage after a recent visit to New Orleans. Sure enough the Sausage Shop has it and makes it in-house.  I have two pounds in the frig just waiting to go into a big pot of turkey gumbo, and red beans and rice in the next couple of weeks.

They also serve hot sandwiches throughout the day. Find the Sausage Shop Meat Market at 1015 W Prince Rd.  You can get more info and "like" them on Facebook too.

Santa Cruz Farmers Market in West Tucson Moves to Summer Hours

It is a beautiful sunny day in Tucson and a great time to visit Tucson's Santa Cruz Farmers Market as it
switches to its summer schedule.  Open from 4-7pm each Thursday, the Santa Cruz Farmers Market is located at the Mercado San Agustin, which is off Congress Street just West of I-10.

In addition to the new summer hours, the market today features a cooking demonstration with Chef Rob Oser, who will be taking advantage of the fresh produce available at today's market.  You will also find a great selection of local produce such as greens, spring onions, snap peas, broccoli, cabbage, beets and turnips.  Baked goods, honey and even handmade prickly pear cactus ice pops are also to be found at the market.

And don't forget to stop by the Salsas Rangel table to sample (and buy!) some of their variety of terrific salsas, some of the best in Tucson.   Mango and habanero is one of their new ones to try today.
