Get out of town to La Fiesta de Tumacacori this weekend

La Fiesta de Tumacacori, celebrating the history and cultures of the Santa Cruz Valley, kicks off Saturday morning December 1 with the traditional blessing of the fiesta followed by two days of music, dancing, food and crafts.

Established in 1691 by Father Kino, the Tumacacori Mission is the often overlooked sister to the White Dove of the Desert, the San Xavier Mission closer to Tucson.  But the quiet and relative isolation of the preserved ruins at Tumacacori have always made me feel a little closer to the older history of Southern Arizona and the Spanish missions.  A special attraction to me is the restored mission gardens and orchard.  The Mission Orchard

The Tumacacori Mission is located on the banks of the Santa Cruz River 50 miles south of Tucson.  Go south on I-19 and take exit 29.  Click the link for more information on La Fiesta de Tumacacori.
