30-Year Fixed-Rate Mortgage Averages 3.99 Percent - Realty Times

This week's average rates on 30-year fixed rate mortgages dropped below 4% for only the second time...ever!  The 3.99% average is only slightly higher than the 3.94% average rate recorded just four weeks ago.

And between the low interest rates and low home prices, the National Association of Realtors' housing affordability index is also at its 3rd highest reading.  Low Tucson home prices, coupled with the low interest rates are helping a lot of first time buyers get into Tucson homes. Click the link below for more information on the low interest rates.

The October Tucson MLS sales stats are out and if you are a seller it is a little bit of good news this month. After hitting a ten year low in September, the median sale price was up ever so slightly (just over 2%) in October to $120,000.  That is still down 14% from the same month a year ago but it does reverse a five month decline.

"Aging-in-Place" Renovations

More people who love their Tucson homes, neighborhoods and views are renovating and updating rather than buying a newer house.  A smart approach is to take into consideration those cool design elements you desire, at the same time including features that will allow you to continue to enjoy your home as you age

For example, consider eliminating steps by filling in that sunken living room.  Replacing tubs with walk-in showers, door knobs with stylish levers and outdoor steps with gently-sloped walks will enhance your comfort and safety as years pass.   Age-appropriate improvements also make your Tucson house more marketable when you do decide to sell.

You know I would love to sell you a new house.  But if you are already in the house of your dreams, it makes sense to plan your renovations wisely to extend your enjoyment for many years to come.
